JASPER COUNTY

The 2nd Fastest Growing County in the State of South Carolina

Jasper County is a county of diversity and opportunity, set among thousands of acres of spreading live oak trees covered in Spanish Moss and stately southern pine forests. Rich in history as well as commerce, the 662 - square mile region is host to a thriving industrial community and a booming tourist trade, both of which benefit from the mild climate and pleasant surroundings of the South Carolina Lowcountry.

Named for Revolutionary War Hero Sergeant William Jasper, the county was created in 1912. It is ideally situated between the historic port cities of Charleston and Savannah with easy access to an international airport, Interstate 95 via seven interchanges, four U.S. Highways, rail and a 3100 foot paved runway for private aircraft in the county seat of Ridgeland.

Business, industry and tourism mingle in a diverse, progressive atmosphere with festivals, musical extravaganzas and a myriad of other recreational activities. Hilton Head Island resort, internationally famous for its professional golf and tennis tournaments, is just a half-hour away. Salt-water fishing is a common sight along our coast, just as fresh water fishermen, flock to the Savannah, Tullifinny, Coosawhatichie, Pocotaligo and New rivers. Jasper County is a sportsman's paradise abundant with deer, turkey, quail, dove, waterfowl and other game. Protected species of ducks, marsh hens, alligators and others may be observed in the Savannah National Wildlife Refuge.

A wide variety of public schools, private academies and nearby colleges demonstrates Jasper County's commitment to education at all levels, as do workplace skill enhancement classes regularly taught at a neighboring technical college. Construction is underway to construct a new four-year campus of the University of South Carolina at the Jasper and Beaufort County lines on Route 278 next to Sun City.

The labor force within a 30-mile radius of the county center numbers in excess of 250,000 and growing, and a fully developed infrastructure assures availability of water, sewer, electric power and telecommunications services throughout the region. Five major hospitals are accessible within 30 miles of the county center. Province Healthcare is building a 40 Bed hospital in the immediate  vicinity of Exit 8.

Jasper County has a well-established and rapidly expanding industrial base, community of new businesses, and progressive government which translate into an economic climate and residential growth second to none in our region.
